Partners processing ore from Farley Lake

Partners Black Hawk Mining (BHK-T) and Granduc Mining (GDC-T) have begun processing the first gold ore from the Farley Lake-Wendy open pits at the Keystone gold mine in Lynn Lake, Man.

Granduc, the operator, has modified the mill to allow for a switch from processing ore from the Burnt Timber mine (which is nearly depleted) to processing ore from the Farley Lake pits.

The capacity of the pre-aeration leaching circuit was increased, and a test run processed 10,000 tonnes of Farley Lake ore over eight days.

Metallurgical results surpassed the companies’ expectations.

The plant expansion and prestripping of the Farley Lake pit were completed ahead of schedule and on budget.

Reserves at Farley Lake stand at 1.4 million tonnes grading 3.9 grams gold per tonne, from which 39,000 oz. gold will be produced in 1996, rising to 58,000 oz. in 1997.

Blackhawk and Granduc await the approval of regulators and Granduc shareholders for a share-for-share merger, announced in February.

The merged company will own a 100% interest in three gold properties and a 40% interest in a fourth. The Hoyle Township gold property in Ontario and the Bald Mountain gold-copper deposit in Maine are in the advanced stage of exploration.
