PAPUA NEW GUINEA AMONG TOP GOLD PRODUCERS

Papua New Guinea, the West Pacific paradise, is quietly becoming a player to reckon with in the international gold mining scene. It can boast three mines in the top 10 of the world’s biggest annual producers. Lihir Island, at 700,000 oz. (21,770 kg) of annual output, is the republic’s leading producer. Bougainville comes next with half a million ounces (15,550 kg), while ok Tedi is third (350,000 oz. or 10,885 kg).
