Toronto-listed Orvana Minerals recently acquired a half interest in a gold-copper project in Kyrgyzstan.
Orvana will spend US$500,000 exploring two concession areas, as will joint-venture partner MK Gold. One area constitutes 4,500 sq. km of MK’s 6,500-sq.-km Jerooy gold project. The Jerooy, which is not included in the joint-venture ground, contains about 1.9 million oz. gold and is expected to produce 150,000 oz. per year.
The other concession comprises 1,750 sq. km. Agencies of the former Soviet Union have identified gold and copper occurrences on both areas. Orvana has formed similar partnerships with MK Gold on properties in Sweden and Bolivia. The Bolivian joint venture will focus on specified areas within the Precambrian.
Closer to home, Orvana announced the start of drill programs on its 100% controlled Thimble Mountain and Eholt projects in British Columbia’s Greenwood Mining district. The program will target copper-gold mineralization hosted by skarn in the Brooklyn Formation.
At Thimble Mountain, a 3-5 core hole program is planned for about 500 metres of drilling. The program will test the dip and strike extensions of mineralization exposed in the old Seattle showing. Surface sampling of workings, 75 metres apart, returned results of 7.3 grams gold per tonne and 0.71% copper over 4.8 metres, and 1.3 grams gold and 0.38% copper over 22.2 metres.
At Eholt, a 2-3 core hole program (about 300 metres) is planned to test two separate targets. The first is a copper-gold soil anomaly, and the second is a magnetic anomaly flanked by an I.P. chargeability high. The source of these anomalies is interpreted to be a skarn or metasomatic replacement deposit.
