Orvana expands Bolivian activities

An agreement for joint exploration in Bolivia has been negotiated by Orvana Minerals (TSE) and its Bolivian partners, Empresa Minera Unificada S.A. (EMUSA) and Merwin Bernstein.

The agreement includes the area of the original Altiplano joint venture and adds the southern Altiplano and eastern Cordillera, more than tripling the area of interest.

Ownership will be 43.5% Orvana, 43.5% EMUSA and 13% Bernstein. Mapping and surface sampling are to start on the Candelaria prospect, where previous work by the partners outlined a 900×600-metre area from which 27 samples averaged more than 1 gram gold per tonne. The interests in this project are Orvana 35%, EMUSA 50% and Bernstein 15%.

At the Pederson project, data collected over the past six months are being analyzed prior to drilling. Extensive surface sampling has identified multiple mineralized zones over a vertical range of more than 300 metres, strike length of 1,000 metres and width greater than 200 metres. One of the best zones averaged 3.3 grams across 80 metres.

In other news, the Bolivian government has asked Orvana to contribute to a pilot environmental impact study on many of the historic mining camps in the country, which would include Pederson. The study, which will be conducted by the Swedish Geological Survey, will be used to design a Bolivian environmental law.
