Open pit mining course offered by Queens

The course is divided into four sessions: mine feasibility and design; mine operation; mine maintenance and engineering; and drilling and blasting. Participants will use both personal computers and mainframe terminals and practice with a variety of software developed for open pit operations.

The course is designed for those with extensive open pit experience but no formal education in the field, operating personnel who wish to upgrade their computer skills, those with engineering degrees in other fields who want to develop open pit expertise, or mining engineers whose experience doesn’t include open pit mining.

A part-time program is available for mining engineers who would like a refresher course in open pit mining.

Registration deadline is Sept 30. More information is available through the Queen’s Department of Mining Engineering at (613) 545-2212.
