Ontario offers exploration incentives

The Ontario Prospectors Assistance Program (OPAP) will provide experienced prospectors with as much as $10,000 per year to carry out grassroots exploration in the province. The Ontario Minerals Incentive Program (OMIP) will provide grants of 30% of exploration costs to a maximum of $150,000 for companies not using flow-through funding.

A further $2-million is allocated to the provinces Computerized Mining Land Information System (CLAIMS) which will improve the efficiency, accuracy and security of mining lands information. The computerized claim records will be available in each of the nine mining recorder offices in Ontario and provide accurate and speedy information to explorationists.

A geoscientific initiative worth $1 million will update and expand the province’s geoscience data base.

The Ministry of Mines and Northern Development will consult with industry associations to ensure the programs meet the needs of prospectors and junior mining companies.
