Ontario needs more miners

The evidence is conclusive: Ontario needs more miners.

The value currently added to Ontario’s economy by each mining employee annually is $204,500, which is 19% higher than in 1990 and more than double the amount contributed by employees in manufacturing.

On an annual basis, the mineral sector adds $3.1 billion to the provincial economy.

These are just a few of the findings contained in The Economic and Fiscal Contribution of the Mining Industry in Ontario, a report prepared for the Ontario Mining Association (OMA) by Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, in co-operation with the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.

The full report is available on the OMA web site at www.oma.on.ca

The preceding is from a bulletin published by the Ontario Mining Association.
