Judith Erola has been elected a director of Inco Ltd. She is president Pharmaceitical Manufacturers Association of Canada and served as federal mines minister in the early 1980s. A new reorganization of the Geological Survey of Can ada has raised the organization’s status within the De partment of Energy, Mines and Resources. The new gsc sector now has four directors-general reporting to an assistant deputy minister, Dr Raymond Price. The director-general of the Sedimentary and Marine Geoscience Branch, Dr Christopher Barnes, will be ac countable for geological and geophysical knowledge and expertise on Canada’s sedi mentary basins. The direc tor-general of the Continental Geoscience and Min eral Resources Branch, Dr Christopher Findlay, will be responsible for maintaining the national geoscience knowledge base, and expertise and technology on the Canadian Shield and the deep geology and geophysics of other parts of the country. The director-general of the Geophysics, Hazards and Terrain Sciences Branch, Dr John Scott, will provide knowledge and expertise relating to the physics of the Earth and to unconsolidat ed materials. Finally, the director-general of the Programs, Planning and Services Branch, Dr Robin Rid dihough, will be responsible for special programs such as the federal-provin cial Mineral Development Agreements. Miner Enterprises, Elastomer Products Division, of Oak Brook, Ill., has appointed Alan Hippard to the position of sales representative. Hippard has 21 years’ experience with the U.S. Air Force. E. D. Dainty, research scientist for the Canada Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology (CANMET), was one of the recipients of the 1987 Engineering Medal. The award is presented by the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario. Peter Kerr has been appointed vice-president, mining and construction, of Atlas Copco Canada. A native of Scotland, a 12-year veteran with Atlas Copco and a former manager of the company’s Vancouver branch, Kerr will be located in Montreal. He succeeds Ernie Benesch who has left the company to follow a new career in Alberta. Moving up as manager of Atlas Copco’s Vancouver branch is Peter McCleary. Recent appointments within the Mines and Minerals Division of the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines include: W. R. Cowan, manager of mining lands and chief mining recorder; Gord Soucie, special assistant to the assistant deputy minister with special responsibility for client services throughout the division; Ed Sado, relocation co-ordinator with regard to the planning and construction of buildings and the transfer of Mines and Minerals staff to Sudbury, Ont.; Henry Wallace, section chief, Geoservices section, Ontario Geological Survey; and Chris Riddle, section chief, Geoscience Labratories, Ontario Geological Survey. David Wyatt has been made product manager of distributor products for New York City-based Cablec Industrial Cable Co. Other appointments include David Loer, customer service manager, and Robert Schoolcraft, manager, technical services and applications engineering. Huntly W. F. McKay has resigned as vice-president, domestic trading, of the Toronto Stock Exchange. Terry Popowich now assumes Huntly’s responsibilities. The new administration manager for Calgary-based Gregg River Resources is Roger Shaneman. Stephen Roman has been appointed president of Toronto, Ont.-based Exhall Resources. He replaces Murray Axmith, who will be retiring, but will remain as a director and advisor to the company. Gary Darychuk has been made director, marketing, for the Cape Breton Development Corp. Paul Carroll has been appointed as a director of Vancouver, B.C.-based Golden North Resource Corp. Carroll is chairman of the board of Lacana Mining Corp. and a lawyer with Smith, Lyons, Torrance, Stevenson and Mayer of Toronto. Gary Boyer has been named vice-president and division manager of the Southeast Missouri Mining and Milling Division of The Doe Run Co., based in St. Louis, Mo. Boyer will move to the division’s Viburnum, Mo., headquarters, where his responsibilities include supervision of Doe Run’s six southeast Missouri lead mines and mills.
