Vancouver The inferred mineral resource for the 2G zone on the Altintepe project in northeastern Turkey has come in 3.16 million tonnes grading 1.52 grams gold per tonne.
Operator Odyssey Resources (ODX-V) recently completed its first bout of drilling over the property and along with previous drilling by Teck Cominco (TEK-T) tabled the independent resource estimate.
Using a 0.4-gram gold cut off, the project also hosts an indicated resource of 1.19 million tonnes grading 1.87-gram gold.
The latest drilling indicate an upward-flaring funnel-shaped zone hosting oxidized disseminated gold mineralization situated at the top and upper flanks of a large hill. Three holes tested the center; southern and northern edges of the zone returning 93.6 metres grading 2.72 grams gold, 32.4 metres grading 1.93 grams gold and 65 metres grading 0.36 gram gold, respectively.
A fourth hole targeted the previously untested Sinan zone yielding 14 metres grading 0.85 gram gold and a fifth hole was drilled between the two zones retunring 12 metres grading 0.34 gram gold.
Moving northeast of the 2G zone, the vein hosted Extension Ridge target holds an inferred mineral resource of 2.19 million tonnes grading 1.21 grams gold.
Odyssey is looking to outline a bulk mineable oxide gold system, where Teck completed 54 holes, cutting both oxide and sulfide mineralization. The major explored the 100-sq.-km property from 1995 to 1997, identifying nine target areas. The oxidation depths vary from 10-to-120 metres. The best drill results include 2.4 grams gold per tonne over 123.6 metres and 5.9 grams gold over 12 metres.
Situated immediately northwest of Odyssey’s Lucky Star gold project, Altintepe hosts the same volcanic rocks and is considered prospective for both bulk-tonnage and high-grade gold deposits. A second round of drilling aimed on an area to the west is expected to begin shortly.
