Hans Schreiber, chairman and chief executive officer of the American consulting firm Behre Dolbear, has died. He was 64.
Born in 1932 in Frankfurt, Germany, Mr. Schreiber emigrated to the U.S. in the same year. He graduated from Amherst College in 1954 with a degree in geology, and from Columbia University in 1958 with a degree in mineralogy.
Upon graduation, Mr. Schreiber began working for Bali Chemi in Hanover, Germany, exploring for potash, barite and fluorspar. He returned to the U.S.
in 1959 to become a mining geologist for American Zinc, Lead & Smelting.
In the 1960s, he worked for both DeWitt Smith & Company and Cerro Corp.
Beginning in 1972, he served as vice-president and general manager of Phelps Dodge Europa and, in 1976, joined Behre Dolbear.
In addition, Mr. Schreiber was a member of the Society of Mining Engineers and the Geological Society of America, and served as president of both the Mining and Metallurgical Society of America and the American Institute of Professional Engineers.
Mr. Schreiber is survived by Mary, his wife of 41 years, and children Stephen, Margaret and Betsy.
