Noted geologist Stuart Roscoe, a research member of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), died Jan. 24. He was 68.
Roscoe was best remembered for his geological work in the Elliot Lake area of Ontario.
During the past 40 years, he did research and was a bush pilot for the GSC. As well, he conducted field surveys around Kirkland Lake and in the Northwest Territories.
Born near Sudbury, Ont., Roscoe earned both his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Queen’s University in the 1940s and his doctorate from Stanford University in 1951.
