OBITUARY — Robert Stevenson

Geological engineer Robert Stevenson has died suddenly in Vancouver. He was 67.

A native of Hamilton, Ont., he graduated in 1952 from the University of Toronto with a BASc. degree in mining geology. He joined Kennco Explorations (Canada) that same year, working in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick until 1959, and mostly in British Columbia and the Yukon thereafter. He was principally involved in exploring for porphyry copper deposits. He also helped explore and develop several deposits which later achieved production. From 1974 to 1982, he was vice-president and general manager of Kennco. He then worked as a consulting geological engineer on properties in Canada and the U.S.

A member of the mine evaluation committee of the British Columbia Securities Commission since 1984, he became its chairman in 1989, a position he held at the time of his death.
