OBITUARY — Richard Mollison

A longtime employee and former president of Texasgulf, Richard Mollison, died recently of cancer. He was 78.

A native of Minnesota and a graduate, in mining engineering, of the University of Minnesota, he joined Texasgulf in 1947 and was the company’s manager of exploration in the early 1960s when the Kidd Creek zinc-copper-silver orebody near Timmins, Ont., was discovered. In 1973, Mollison became president of Texasgulf.

His mining career can be traced back to 1937 when, as a student, he worked at the Northern Empire gold mine in northwestern Ontario as a mucker and miner’s helper.

Prior to joining Texasgulf, he worked for Penn Iron Mines in Michigan, Cerro de Pasco Copper in Peru, Newmont Mining and Phelps Dodge.
