A former Nova Scotia deputy minister of mines, James P. Nowlan, has di ed in Halifax at the age of 76.
A professional geologist who enjoyed a long career in the mining industry before entering government service, Mr Nowlan was deputy minister from 1958 until his retirement in 1973.
Very active in his earlier years both in mining projects and in industry organizations, he served as president of the Geological Association of Canada in 1964-65 and as president of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1973-74.
Mr Nowlan leaves a wife and two sons.
