OBITUARY — Harry Badgley

A 50-year member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, Harry Badgley died recently in Summerland, B.C. He was 85.

He spent his entire working career in the mining industry, starting in 1928 with Inco at that company’s smelter in Copper Cliff, Ont. Badgley attended Queen’s University from September, 1929, until May, 1933, working during the summer months at the Frood mine in Sudbury, Ont., in Timmins, Ont., and at the Wright Hargreaves mine in Kirkland Lake, Ont.

Moving west in 1934, he worked as a rock driller at Reno Gold in Salmo, B.C. Later that year, he moved to the Sullivan mine at Kimberly, B.C., and worked there in various capacities until 1947.

In July, 1947, Badgley moved to Hazelton, B.C., where he served as mine superintendent of Silver Standard Mines. In 1951, he moved to Vancouver where he acted as manager of mines for Silver Standard. He retired to Summerland in 1971.

In addition to the CIM, he was associated with the British Columbia and Yukon Chamber of Mines.
