OBITUARY — Charles Tanner

Charles Tanner, president and founder of CJT Surplus Equipment, died on Sept. 3, at his home in Ottawa, Ont.

Mr. Tanner was well-known in the Canadian mining industry. For more than 25 years, he helped companies save and recover money by buying and selling their used equipment.

Born in Lakefield, Ont., in 1917, he graduated from Queen’s University as a mining engineer in 1939. He worked at the Wright-Hargreaves gold mine in Kirkland Lake and the Central Patricia gold mine before being seconded to Alcan during the war years. His 22 years at Alcan took him to Arvida, Que.; Ouro Preto, Brazil; Montreal; and to a brucite mine in Wakefield, Que.
