OBITUARY — Charles Main

Charles (Sandy) Main, an exploration geologist with experience on three continents, has died. He was 53.

Born in Chilliwack, B.C., Main graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in chemistry in 1964 and a degree in geology in 1971.

He began his professional career in 1964 as a geochemist with United Keno Hill Mines in the Yukon. He joined Australia’s International Nickel as a geologist in 1971 and served, from 1974 to 1977, as a geologist with New Zealand Perlite.

In 1977, Main joined Archer, Cathro & Associates, where he worked until 1989.

In 1994, he relocated to Bolivia where he served as the exploration manager for Pan American Silver.

Main is survived by wife Carol and children Kirsteen, Catriona and Alexander.
