Obituary Allison Heather

A 1937 graduate from the University of North Dakota with an engineering degree in mining and metallurgy, Heather began his long mining career at the East Malartic gold mine in Quebec, returning to Manitoba in 1948 as underground manager of the Howe Sound mine at Snow Lake.

He accepted the mine manager post at Madsen in 1953 where he pioneered many underground mining procedures, including the development of a “hard reaming bit” that is now used world-wide.

After leaving the Red Lake camp in 1964, he spent the last 10 years of his mining career as a managing consultant at the Stall mine at Snow Lake, the San Antonio mine at Bissett, the Sapawe gold mine at Atikokan and the Sedren copper mine in Haiti.

A member of the Association of Professional Engineers of both Ontario and Manitoba, he was made a life member of the CIM in 1972.
