William B. Dix, the former vice-president of McIntyre Porcupine Mines, died in Toronto recently at the age of 81.
Born and educated in England, Dix spent almost his entire working life within the McIntyre organization, first as a junior accountant in 1928 and later as treasurer and vice-president.
Dix gave his time to many other companies and associations, particularly the McIntyre Research Foundation, a non-profit organization set up to look at ways to prevent the spread of silicosis in mines.
“He was one hell of a fine fellow,” remarked a colleague who worked with him for many years. Dix, who retired in 1972, is survived by his wife Jen and son William Jr.
