Charles Salter, former vice-chairman of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) who took an active interest in junior mining companies, died recently. He was 62.
A lawyer by profession, Salter specialized in corporate and securities law from 1957 to 1968.
In 1968 he joined the Ontario Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations’ companies division.
In 1975 Salter joined the OSC as its executive director and chief administrative officer and became vice-chairman in September, 1984. He resigned from the commission last November because of ill health. Salter will be remembered as one who appreciated the industry’s problems in raising money and other difficulties with which junior miners must contend.
