Kelly Dolphin
Well known in Canadian and Alaskan mining circles, Kelly Dolphin, 35, died in a snowmobile accident near Nenana, Alaska.
An avid sportsman, Dolphin was practising for a cross-country snowmobile race and died in a head-on collision with another racer, who was also killed. Dolphin worked for several years at placer mines in southwestern Alaska before moving to Fairbanks, where he started Miners, a business concerned with fine gold recovery.
In 1985, Dolphin, together with long-time partner Harry Barr, founded FreeGold Recovery. The junior, now known as International FreeGold Mineral Development, acquired a large land position known as the Golden Summit project, which represents most of the historic production in the Fairbanks district.
