One of the top geologists in the world-renowned Thayer Lindsley mine-finding team, Jock MacGregor, has died at the Toronto Western Hospital at the age of 86.
A graduate from Harriot Watt University of Edinburgh in mining geology, much of his mining career centred in the Noranda area where he was a recognized authority. In fact it was his recognition of a relationship between “dalmationite” rock alteration and underlying copper-zinc sulphide ore deposits that resulted in the finding of six hidden orebodies in the Amulet area.
As president of Lake Dufault Mines, and in association with the late Thayer Lindsley, he laid out the drill program that led to the discovery of the rich Lower “A” deposit at that mine.
He leaves his wife Eunice and sons Ian and John and four grandchildren.
