OBITUARIES — Arthur Honsberger

Arthur Hess Honsberger, former chief engineer of the Howey gold mine near Red Lake, Ont., has died. He was 90.

After earning a mining and metallurgy engineering degree from Queen’s University in 1927, Mr. Honsberger was employed in field work in northwestern Quebec before joining Frood Mines to work in the survey office. He later served as chief engineer at the Howey mine, where he was in charge of surface diamond drilling.

He moved to Gold Eagle Gold Mines in 1934 to serve as a consulting engineer. He also served as manager for base metal and gold mines run by West Red Lake, Madsen Red Lake, Faulkenham Lake, Starratt-Olsen, Frontier and Elder.

A member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers, Mr. Honsberger is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and sons John and Douglas.
