Nymex enjoys a banner year

Metals futures trading in 1993 on the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex) jumped 19% over 1992 activity.

The majority of those trades involved platinum futures (up 13%). The number of palladium futures contacts increased 67% from the previous year. Platinum options trading increased 59% and set a record.

Nymex, which in addition to platinum and palladium trades crude oil and other energy-related contracts, set an annual record in 1993 with about 55.4 million futures and options contracts traded, marking the 13th time in 14 years a record has been achieved. Total Nymex volume was up 17% from 1992. Crude oil futures trading was up 18% and set a record; crude oil options contracts were up 9%.
