Drill results from the Rainy River property in northwestern Ontario point to improved gold grades.
Nuinsco Resources (NWI-T) reports that hole 6, drilled diagonally into the No. 17 zone, intercepted 37.8 metres grading 3.4 grams per tonne.
Other highlights include: hole 1, which returned 46.1 metres of 1.2 grams; hole 2, which intersected 54.8 metres of 1.4 grams; hole 4, which returned 43.9 metres of 0.7 gram; and hole 5, which returned 31.7 metres of 0.8 gram.
A 0.27-metre sample from hole 6 assayed a spectacular 2,559 grams per tonne.
The sample was cut to 2 oz. in computing the weighted average grade of the intercept described above.
The core consisted of sulphide-mineralized dacite cut by a quartz vein containing pyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite and galena with coarse-grained gold, similar to many other high-grade gold samples obtained previously from the No. 17 zone. The abundance of these high-grade gold occurrences has yet to be determined, but their frequency will significantly affect the grade of the mineralization, Nuinsco states.
Two rigs are drilling the No. 17 zone. Since mid-January, 12 diamond drill holes have been completed to an average vertical depth of 250 metres.
In hole 3, Nuinsco missed the gold zone, hitting instead 28.7 metres of anomalous nickel-copper mineralization (including platinum group elements) at the lower end of a band of mafic-to-ultramafic rock.
Elsewhere on the property, hole 96-51 returned 5.44% combined nickel-copper over 3.1 metres, and hole 96-65 hit 5.12% nickel-copper over 1.9 metres. Both intersections were at a vertical depth of about 175 metres.
Meanwhile, Nuinsco received information from Overburden Drilling Management regarding the discovery of a new gold anomaly in glacial till on the Rainy River property. Since mid-January, Overburden has been conducting an extensive overburden reverse-circulation reconnaissance exploration program for Nuinsco, covering parts of several townships in the Rainy River district.
The till anomaly discovered is similar to the 1994 anomaly that led to the discovery of the No. 17 zone in Richardson Twp. The new anomaly is 4 km from, though unrelated to, the No. 17 zone. Line-cutting crews are on site and follow-up RC drilling is in progress, which will be followed by geophysical surveys and diamond drilling.
