A drill hole at the Rainy River, Ont., project of Nuinsco Resources (NWI-T) has revealed an intercept of significant gold mineralization.
Hole NR96-45, drilled near the centre of the 17 zone, produced about 163 metres (true width of about 61 metres) that graded 2.63 grams gold per tonne.
The first 15.3 metres of core assayed 13.6 grams within a longer intercept of 62.6 metres averaging 5.1 grams.
Nuinsco’s geologists believe the three new holes, which crossed a significant portion of the strike length of the property’s gold-bearing structures, indicate the weighted average grade of the deposit could be 1.5-3.1 grams gold — more than 2-4 times the expected grade.
The company regards the gold potential of the 17 zone as being 50 million tonnes averaging 0.7 gram. The zone is open in three directions.
Exploration continues, with one rig turning. A second rig will soon be mobilized in an effort to track an unrelated occurrence of
nickel-copper-platinum group element mineralization.
