NovaGold starts gold production at Murray Brook

Murray Brook utilizes vat leaching to process its ore. At an operating rate of 350,000 tons per year, the mine is expected to produce 12,000 oz of gold and 100,000 oz of silver annually during the mine’s 5-year operating life.

According to a feasibility study completed by Kilborn, a mine engineering company, Murray Brook hosts proven reserves of 1.69 million tons grading 0.037 oz gold and 1.49 silver per ton. Production costs are estimated at $197(US) per oz of gold.

About 100,000 tons of rock have been mined from an open pit of which 35,000 tons have been crushed and stockpiled for milling. The company hopes to mine 350,000 tons of rock before winter. This will enable the mill to operate throughout winter until mining can resume in the spring.
