Junior NovaGold Resources (NRI-T) has been increased its international exposure by optioning two gold properties in Africa.
The company can acquire an unspecified interest in the projects by paying US$3 million for 65% of the common shares of Secor GeoMin Mining Development, a private company. NovaGold has completed a private placement with a European investor for US$1.5 million to fund its new option agreement.
One of the properties, Ngoyboma, comprises 650 sq. km in the Congo. The company will explore a northwest-trending greenstone belt to determine the primary source of small-scale, alluvial gold and diamond deposits.
The other property, Bounsankoba, is in a greenstone belt in Senegal, which hosts the Sadiola gold deposit 40 km to the north. The 450-sq.-km project consists of two small alluvial gold operations. Soil sampling and alluvial panning will be carried out in an attempt to identify additional reserves.
In a separate agreement, NovaGold has optioned the Sewell Brook property in New Brunswick to Chapleau Resources (CHI-V). Chapleau can earn a half interest by spending $2 million on exploration, whereupon a joint venture will be formed. Subsequent programs will be funded equally by the partners.
