Northfield reopens Cheminis mine

Northfield Minerals (ASE) has resumed work at the Cheminis gold mine near Virginiatown, Ont., and expects to process its first ore within 6-8 weeks.

At the moment, Northfield is reactivating the surface plant, replacing hoist cables and making preparations for dewatering.

Once a bulk-sampling program above the 695-ft. level is complete, the company feels it will have enough information to proceed to full-scale production. Ore will be processed at Deak Resources’ (TSE) nearby Kerr mill.

Referring to past drilling above the 1,000-ft. level, Northfield believes the mine contains enough reserves to sustain a 4-year operation. Once Cheminis has been completely reopened, underground exploration and development on these drill-indicated zones will resume.

Northfield says the ore structure is open to the east and west and at depth.
