Northern Crown steps up work in Guadalupe

Over the course of 1997, Northern Crown Mines (NCW-V) will spend $7 million proving up its Guadalupe de los Reyes gold-silver project in Mexico’s Sinaloa state.

Comprising 59 sq. km, the land package is centred on 13.7 km of host structure containing five epithermal gold-bearing zones.

Exploration will be focused on the Guadalupe Mine zone, where, since November, 25 holes have been drilled. The structure extends over a strike length of 2,500 metres and, historically, has yielded 525,000 oz. gold and 41 million oz. silver from depths of 400 metres.

In an attempt to define a resource amenable to open-pit mining, the company is drill-testing the upper 100-150 metres of the 50-metre-wide zone. Drilling to date has focused on a 200-metre strike length in the western end of the zone and a 300-metre-long area in the centre.

In 1996, the zone was subjected to 48 drill holes, at least 18 of which encountered values regarded by Northern Crown as significant.

Among the mineralized intercepts encountered in the centre of the zone were: 82.3 metres grading 1.84 grams gold and 43.1 grams silver per tonne in hole 19; 12.2 metres of 0.94 gram gold and 33.1 metres silver in hole 40; 15.3 metres of 0.58 gram gold and 19.1 grams silver in hole 43; 12.2 metres of 1.25 gram gold and 58.6 grams silver (plus 30.5 metres of 0.93 gram gold and 27.8 grams silver) in hole 44; and 7.6 metres of 0.99 gram gold and 26.1 grams silver (plus 13.7 metres of 1.62 grams gold and 50.4 grams silver) in hole 48.

Two holes previously reported from the central portion intersected 24.4 metres grading 2.44 grams gold and 91.1 grams silver in hole 14, and 21.4 metres grading 3.06 grams gold and 83.1 grams silver in hole 16.

Intercepts from the western portion included: 21.3 metres grading 0.63 gram gold and 13.5 grams silver per tonne (plus 21.3 metres of 1.28 grams gold and 15.8 grams silver) in hole 33; 21.4 metres of 1.04 grams gold and 32.7 grams silver in hole 34; 30.4 metres of 0.86 gram gold and 20.9 grams silver in hole 35; and 19.8 metres of 1.03 grams gold and 27.7 grams silver in hole 36.

Over the next six months, the project will receive 17,000 metres of additional delineation drilling.
