Noront aims for polymetallic riches at Windfall Lake

Diamond drilling has resumed on the Windfall Lake base metal and gold project east of Lebel-sur-Quvillon, Que., reports Noront Resources (NOT-V).

Three holes were previously drilled on the property, in which Noront’s joint-venture partner, Alto Minerals (ATO-V), is earning a half interest.

Holes 1 and 3 tested the downdip extension of a surface gold showing that assayed up to 9 grams gold per tonne across 3 metres in the Trench zone.

Hole 3 was the first stepout hole drilled on strike, some 70 metres northeast of the Trench zone.

Hole 2 tested a parallel induced-polarization (IP) anomaly, some 200 metres south of the Trench zone.

Highlights of the more recent drill program are as follows:

* hole 1, drilled to a depth of 222 metres, intersected 1 gram gold over 11.23 metres (from 42.47 to 53.7 metres), and 1 gram gold over 7.24 metres (from 206.11 to 213.5 metres);

* hole 2, drilled to a depth of 235 metres, intersected 0.5 gram gold over 39.3 metres (from 20.6 to 59.9 metres); and

* hole 3, drilled to a depth of 260 metres, hit 1.07 grams gold over 45.34 metres (from 76.5 to 121.84 metres).

Noront believes the results from holes 1 and 3 indicate continuity at depth and northeast along strike of the vertically dipping surface gold showing (the Trench zone).

All three holes encountered altered felsic to mafic volcanic rocks containing sulphide mineralization throughout with highly anomalous gold values.

The heaviest sulphide mineralization seen to date was in hole 3 — the first stepout hole drilled on an IP anomaly estimated to be about 4 km long.

The current drill program is testing the strike extent of the known mineralization, as well as numerous gold and base metal targets derived from IP and geochemical surveys.
