Normetal Mining Exploration (ME) and affiliate company La Sarre Mining Exploration (ME) have delineated several blocks of reserves on the former producing Normetal polymetallic mine near La Sarre, Que. Work by the partners has blocked out probable reserves of 136,404 tons grading 14.39% zinc and 46.98 g silver per ton. The zone has an average width of 4.6 m. Total possible and probable reserves stand at 392,599 tons grading 11.72% zinc and 36.24 g silver at a depth of 1,500 ft. A small copper reserve of 38,982 tons grading 2.92% copper has also been outlined.
Normetal’s exploration effort has also encountered erratic gold values ranging from 0.06 oz gold across 2.5 ft. to 0.8 oz gold in a 17-ft section.
Based on the encouraging results, the companies are planning a $4.4- million underground exploration program. Near-surface exploration will be via a decline ramp to 300 ft. Testing for the depth extension of the deposit will be conducted from surface to 3,000 ft. A 36,000-ft drill program has been proposed. The program would also include a 20,000-ton bulk test.
Funding for the work will come from Orfinance, a Quebec group which has been given the right to earn a 25% interest in the project by spending $4.5 million on exploration. Currently, partners Normetal and La Sarre hold a 75% and 25% interest respectively.
