Finnish mining equipment manufacturer Normet Group has acquired Chile-based Semmco Group, giving it access to the South American manufacturer’s specialized robots and low-profile transmixers for spraying concrete.
“The acquisition is an important step for us and Semmco will greatly strengthen our market position in South America,” said Normet chairman Aaro Cantell in a release.
Semmco, which has a staff of 45, will be merged with Normet under the name Normet Chile Ltd. The company will operate out of Semmco’s old headquarters in Santiago.
The management team at Semmco will remain in place in the new entity.
Former owner Ismael Anabalon Retes will take over as general manager for Normet Chile, with Ismael Anabalon Del Campo becoming area sales manager and Marcelo Anabalon Del Campo assuming the role of production manager.
“This acquisition brings a whole new dimension into Normet,” said Tom Melbye, chief operation officer of Normet Group in a statement. “I’ve known the family members for the last fifteen years as competitors and sometimes partners and I have a big respect for their achievements.”
Semmco is known for its pioneering work in developing robotized wet sprayed concrete and manufacturing concrete pumps and machines.
