Nordex To Build New Explosives Plant Near Kirkland Lake

What better place for a new emulsion plant than in Kirkland Lake, Ont., one of the world’s largest mining regions?

Geography was definitely a top consideration for Nordex Explosives (NXX-V, NRDXF-O) when it decided to build its new emulsion explosives plant at its manufacturing and operations facility in northern Ontario. The region offers the company a perfect access point to the Canadian mining sector.

“The new explosives plant gives us an immediate competitive advantage in our primary markets of Ontario and Quebec,” said Jim Taylor, vice-president of operations for Nordex, in a statement. “By manufacturing the product in close proximity to our clients, we are able to provide a better product on a timelier basis and be more responsive to the requirements of our clients.”

The plant is the first of its kind to be built in Canada in the past 10 years.

The emulsion manufacturing technology was licensed from Precision Blasting Services.

The explosives are specifically designed to be used in Canada’s harsh weather climates.

Nordex Explosives, which has its head office in Kirkland Lake, manufactures and distributes explosives for the mining, quarry and road construction industries.
