Noranda to drill Abcourt property

Following the discovery of two massive sulphide zones earlier this summer, Abcourt Mines (ME) and the exploration division of Noranda (TSE) intend to drill three deep holes on Abcourt’s McKenzie base metal property.

This past summer, reconnaissance mapping was completed on the 149-claim McKenzie property, situated near Chibougamau, Que. A zone of massive sulphides (measuring 275 metres long by 1 to 5 metres wide) and a relatively wide zone of silicification were found at the contact between felsic volcanics and basaltic lavas.

Although the massive sulphides were barren, an additional 50 claims were staked to cover a 12-km strike length along this contact. Further mapping on the new ground led to the discovery of a massive sulphide zone measuring 61 metres long by 3 to 5 metres wide. This zone assayed up to 0.26% copper and 3.13% zinc.

Noranda can earn a half interest by making annual payments of $120,000 and spending $750,000 on exploration over five years.
