Noranda finds metals at Duck Pond project

Additional drilling at Noranda Exploration’s Tally Pond — Duck Pond project in central Newfoundland has continued to intersect what the company calls significant base and precious metal values.

Located 142 km southwest of Gander, the project is operated by Noranda as a joint venture with Selco Division — BP Resources Canada Ltd. which has a 40% participating interest.

Drilling so far has shown a northerly striking, shallow west dipping zone which occurs at approximately 350 m vertical depth.

Noranda says an initial review of data indicates an approximate strike length, width and average thickness of 250 m, 100 m and 13 m respectively and the zone is open in all directions. The best intersections are as follows:

Hole DP-87-101 intersected a 21.2-m cut averaging 3.74% copper, 1.46% lead, 7.58% zinc, 3.285 oz silver per ton and 0.032 oz gold. Hole DP-87-104 cut a 21-m section averaging 4.71% copper, 0.99% lead, 5.12% zinc, 2.248 oz silver and 0.035 oz gold.

According to Noranda, four operating drills are attempting to define the limits of the orebody. The company plans to spend $2 million on drilling this year while pre-feasibility studies determine the property’s economic potential.
