Not-for-profit organization Geoscience has awarded 11 graduate scholarships worth $5,000 to students working on mineral or oil and gas exploration-related topics in British Columbia.
The scholarships were open to students registered in a master’s (M. Sc.) or doctorate (PhD) program. The following is a list of recipients: Katrin Breitsprecher, PhD student, University of British Columbia; Kevin Byrne, M. Sc. student, University of British Columbia; Joel Cubley, PhD student, University of Calgary; Tashia Dzikowski, PhD student, University of British Columbia; Shannon Frey, M. Sc. student, Simon Fraser University; Jean-Francois Gagnon, PhD student, University of Alberta; Jamie Kraft, PhD student, University of Alberta; Vishal Kumar, M. Sc. student, University of British Columbia; Chris Lawley, M. Sc. student, University of Alberta; Janina Micko, PhD student, University of British Columbia; and Keegan Raines, M. Sc. student, University of Calgary.
Applicants for the scholarship were selected based on their education, work experience, thesis project, career goals and references.
A panel of geoscientists from industry and academia judged participants and weighed the benefits of their goals and projects to exploration in B. C.
Geoscience B. C. is an industry-led, industry-focused, applied geoscience organization that promotes mineral, oil and gas exploration in the province. Last year’s award recipients were from Australia as well as Canada.
