Cominco Resources International spent $1.9 million on various exploration projects during its first quarter of operation. Feasibility work was also in progress at three projects: Topaz beryllium in Utah, Marte gold in Chile and Maria copper in Mexico.

Drilling on about 400-ft centres has suggested a mineral inventory of approximately four million tons grading 3% copper at the Sheep Creek property in Montana. Besides the copper, the deposit also contains appreciable amounts of cobalt.

Drilling or underground exploration has also begun on seven other properties in the United States, Mexico, Peru and France.

Exploration drilling at the Buckhorn mine in Nevada has defined 300,000 tons grading 0.067 oz gold. In addition, 145,000 tons grading 0.053 oz have been defined at the North Buckhorn extension zone. These reserves will extend mine life and more targets are available for additional drilling, says Cominco. Vancouver-based Equinox Resources has a 23.6% interest in the mine.

Cominco Resources 76% share of Buckhorn revenues and cash flow was $4.6 million and $2.1 million respectively. The company’s share of production was 7,021 oz gold.
