Aur Resources (TSE) vice-president Howard Stockford said he is mildly encouraged by results from six holes completed on the Joutel Resources (TSE) copper property at Joutel, Quebec.
With a right to earn 70% of the property by spending $2 million, Aur is exploring a shallow dipping horizon, containing the “Southwest zinc zone,” located about 600 ft. west of the old Joutel copper mine.
Highlights include a 41 ft. section of pyritic massive sulphides averaging 0.66% zinc over 50 ft., including 13 ft. averaging 1.49% zinc. Joutel says the section is underlain by a thick chlorite alteration zone containing local copper stringer mineralization grading up to 0.84% copper over 5 ft. While those values are not considered ore grade, Stockford said they represent “good sniffs” of the type of massive sulphide mineralization that the company is looking for.
Joutel President Charlie Page said the zinc values were intersected at a fairly shallow 200 ft. elevation and he believes Aur may be drilling in the same horizon that hosted the Joutel copper mine. He expects depth extensions of the zone to be a priority target when drilling resumes again this summer. Meanwhile, Joutel has acquired an option to earn a 60% stake in a 48-unit property in Hurdman and Adanac twps. 65 miles north of Timmins, Ont. and two miles east of Noront Resources’ (VSE) zinc discovery.
