Based on drilling completed this spring, Montreal-based Niocan (NIO-M) has released new resource estimates for its niobium deposit near Oka, Que.
The consortium known as MET-CHEM-Pellemon, which is completing a feasibility study, calculated the following resources in zone 60: 7.6 million tonnes grading 0.69% Nb2O5 in the proven category, 3.1 million tonnes of 0.69% Nb2O5 in the probable category, and 3.6 million tonnes of 0.62% Nb2O5 in the possible category — for a total of 14.4 million tonnes grading 0.66% Nb2O5.
Within zone 2, the resources are: 1.3 million tonnes grading 0.57% Nb2O5 in the proven category, 2.2 million tonnes of 0.57% Nb2O5 in the probable category, and 2.4 million tonnes of 0.55% Nb2O5 in the possible category — for a total of 5.9 million tonnes of 0.56% Nb2O5.
Niocan’s consulting engineers are completing metallurgical tests using half cores of the mineralized intersections.
Niocan also reports it has received authorization from the Quebec Ministry of Mines to stake nearby land previously withdrawn from staking. These areas include the St.-Lawrence Columbium and Main Oka properties, which still contain niobium-phosphate mineralization.
