Four companies have signed a deal covering nickel deposits in the Biankouma area of western Ivory Coast.
The companies are Trillion Resources (TSE), Falconbridge and Sodemi, the Ivory Coast state mining company.
Under the deal, Falconbridge must complete a bankable feasibility study to earn 60% of the project. Trillion’s interest would be 15% and Sodemi would own 25%.
The lateritic nickel deposits in the Biankouma are among the largest and highest-grade in the world. They were extensively explored by Falconbridge in the 1970s and then abandoned in the early 1980s when market conditions deteriorated. Trillion acquired the properties in 1989.
Drilling is to begin immediately.
