First-quarter gold production from the Sleeping Giant mine in northwestern Quebec was 22% higher than originally forecast.
The mine, jointly owned by Cambior (TSE) and Aurizon Mines (TSE), produced 10,882 oz. in the period, although only 8,900 oz. were expected. The increase was attributable to greater-than-expected grades. The mill processed 35,380 tons of ore with an average grade of 0.32 oz. gold per ton and a recovery rate of 94.7%.
