Montreal-listed MSV Resources has completed preliminary
technical studies concerning the reopening of the Cedar Bay mine and its integration with the Copper Rand operation in
Chibougamau, Que.
The copper-gold producer will now undertake an economic
evaluation of such a move.
Meanwhile, at the nearby Corner Bay copper project, MSV and
joint-venture partner Cache Explorations (ME) expect to begin laying down infrastructure in the second quarter. The project is being developed as a 200,000-tonne-per-year underground mine, with probable and possible reserves estimated at 960,061 tonnes grading 5.28% copper.
MSV can earn a 55% interest in Corner Bay by bringing it into production.
During the first three months of this year, MSV registered a record quarterly production of 4.2 million lb. copper and 17,515 oz. gold from its Chibougamau operations and Eastmain gold mine near James Bay.
