Junior explorer Rio Narcea Gold Mines (TSE) has acquired mineral rights to three parcels of land in the western half of Spain’s Asturias region.
The properties — known as the Navelgas, Oscos and Salave — have mineralized trends that are west of, and parallel to, the Valle and Boinas properties, which Rio Narcea is also exploring.
The new properties are underlain by extensive structural systems within granitic and sedimentary rocks, and are said to have potential for gold mineralization.
Rio acquired the properties in three separate transactions, two with Spanish companies and the other through a public tender. With the purchase, Rio now controls more than 1,100 sq. km of mineral rights in Spain.
