NEWS ROUNDUP — Madsen suing ministry

In an unusual reversal of roles, a mining company has announced its intention to sue the government of Ontario.

Madsen Gold (TSE) has served the required 60-day notice of its intention to take legal action against the Ministry of the Environment and Energy. The company claims the ministry, which operates the sewage plant in the town of Madsen, near Red Lake, has been dumping raw sewage onto its properties. These properties include a potentially economic tailings deposit. The claim will be for trespassing, nuisance breach of statutory duty, punitive damages and loss of opportunity resulting in substantial damages.
