NEWS ROUNDUP — Kinross raises production

Toronto-based Kinross Gold (TSE) is increasing production at the QR mine near Quesnel, B.C.

The daily rate will rise to 800 from 500 tonnes, as a result of the provincial government having approved an amendment to a mine and development certificate filed by the company.

QR was discovered in 1977 and acquired by Kinross in 1992. The company is currently acquiring permits and licences to develop and operate the project. The deposit contains 1.3 million tonnes averaging 4.77 grams gold per tonne. Initial production from an open pit will be supplemented with ore from two underground areas. When fully operational, the mine is expected to crank out 40,000 oz. annually.
