NEWS ROUNDUP — Japan, Oman strike deal

The countries of Japan and Oman have signed an agreement to search for iron, copper, gold and silver in the oil-producing Gulf sultanate.

Prospecting would cover an area of almost 4,000 sq. km north of the city of Masqat, Agence France Presse reports.

The Japanese International Co-operation Agency will carry out studies at a cost of US$2 million.
