Highland Valley copper was the top award winner during British Columbia’s 16th annual mine reclamation symposium and awards ceremony held recently in Smithers, B.C.
Cominco Ltd. was awarded a metal mining citation at the event, and Westar Mining’s Greenhills operation received a coal mining citation. The event drew more than 200 experts from the mining industry, government and universities, and covered the full range of situations — from exploration to mine closures — with emphasis on acid rock drainage, revegetation, water quality and risk assessment.
