A bulk heap-leach test of sulphide ores from the Gilt Edge deposit in South Dakota indicates a recovery rate higher than previously thought.
The property is owned by Dakota Mining (TSE). In October, 1992, 42,000 tons averaging 0.059 oz. gold per ton were crushed to 90% minus one-quarter inch and heap leached. Previous studies suggested a 55% recovery was achievable within two years.
After 383 days, 49.4% of the gold was recovered. Regression analysis of the results indicate this will rise to 61.8% after two years.
Dakota has commissioned a final feasibility study.
The company thinks that, at current gold prices, all or part of the 45 million tons of material averaging 0.04 oz. can be developed.
