The Granada gold project, 6 km southwest of Rouyn-Noranda, Que., is set to begin producing this month.
Joint owners KWG Resources (ME) and SEG Exploration (ME) report that the property, a former producer, will initially operate at 1,000 tons per day. About 770,000 tons from both zones, to a depth of 300 ft., are to be extracted by open-pit and bulk-mining methods.
Recent bulk-sampling of 50,000 tons yielded 0.18 oz. gold per ton from the No. 1 zone and 0.09 oz. from No. 2. A previously experienced nugget effect is expected to result in grades 25-30% higher.
Total reserves are estimated at 3.7 million tons (770,000 tons probable and three million tons possible).
